Guanaja - Graham's Place (Josh Cay) - 2010
Weather was such that we never did actually get to set foot on Guanaja itself, though we hoped to be going back at some point to see El Bight, and enjoy its very good anchorage. We would also like to see Bonnaca Town, on Guanaja Cay. It is the largest town in Guanaja, and the cay is completely covered with buildings. Graham’s Place, which we did visit, is a dive and fishing resort. It is on a postage-stamp sized island just off-shore of Guanaja. It has some cute cabins, as well as the proverbial tropical island outdoor restaurant and bar. It was absolutely lovely, surrounded by sun and surf, and great fun to have a bite and a drink, then walk the circumference of the island enjoying the local flora and fauna, and the water splashing on the nearby reef.
From Guanaja, we returned for an overnight at Port Royal. The next day we went on to French Cay Harbour to join up again with our buddy boat, TANTALUS, and the other boats in our little flotilla, being Paul on SERENITY and Bill on KETCH ME. The other boat, BORRACHA, with Karin and Dave aboard, loved Guanaja so dearly that they couldn’t be budged from El Bight at that time. So, TANTALUS being ready to sail again, we headed back down the south coast of Roatan, in tandem. We may get back to Guanaja, and hopefully to El Bight, later this year.
