Laguna El Diamante - 2010

We visited Laguna El Diamante twice. It is part of the Jeanette Kawas National Park, and is a lovely, secluded bay with excellent protection from the winds, on all sides. This was a very good thing as our second visit was during the passing of Tropical Storm Alex, and we needed a good hidey- hole.

On our first visit, DREAM AWAY, TANTALUS and GENTOO anchored there. Some of the folks went ashore and ventured along the land bridge between Laguna El Diamante and Puerto Escondido. They then walked around Puerto Escondido and over to Puerto Sal Beach. Laguna El Diamante and Puerto Escondido are small bays on the west side of the peninsula. Puerto Sal Beach is on the east side of the peninsula, and Punta Sal is at the end of the peninsula. During their expedition they saw monkeys, and various fruits and flora. Being in a national park, they were very respectful of its pristine condition and resources.

One of the big surprises for this anchorage was having access to the Internet. There is a small town not far away, and it has a big cell tower. It seemed a bit bizarre to be out in this veritable wilderness, and still have access to the world. Laguna El Diamante was a nice place to visit, and anchor out for a while, but it has no resources, and now its tranquil nature has been corrupted by the murder of a cruiser there. We can no longer recommend visiting it.
